Service to one’s community is a tenet I hold very near and dear and have since a young age. My parents were both born in the 1930s during the Depression and were young children when WWII started and both of them learned early on to give back to those in need, be it by selling war bonds or helping out in their local communities. For me, as a young student at Georgetown University, the Jesuits instilled in me the same lesson, give back all your life, don’t wait till you’re financially situated to just write checks to worthy causes. Giving back helps everyone involved. Since those early days of tutoring kids from disadvantaged backgrounds in Washington DC, I’ve always tried to carve out time to serve a good cause. Dress for Success came my way via my dear friend Andrew Freeman who has served on their board since its inception here in San Francisco. I started on the Host Committee, joined the board two years ago and now as co-chair of the upcoming June 22nd gala at the Intercontinental Hotel, we are celebrating 11 years of the chapter and its worthy cause. Dress for Success Worldwide is an international organization with chapters in 145 cities in 20 countries, which empowers women in the workplace. Its mission is to help women achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and development tools to thrive in work and life.
